D & M
With “passionate songs that range from acoustic sensitivity to outbursts of pure rock and roll that stay in your ear for days on end”, D & M is a blues-infused alternative pop band based out of Philadelphia, drawing influences from current artists such as John Mayer, Mumford & Sons, and Coldplay. Danny Fornasa is the group’s lead vocalist, acoustic guitar player, and main songwriter; his expansive vocal range allows the group to write dynamic songs that keep the listener enticed track after track. Lead guitarist, Matt Klahre, returns the group’s modern pop stylings to their blues roots with melodic guitar lines and searing blues solos.
The duo met on the first day of college in the fall of 2009 and after discovering their undeniable chemistry during an impromptu jam session, the collaborative musical venture dubbed D & M was born. It wasn’t the most shocking name, or the most eccentric on their list, but “D & M” told the world who they were in the most honest of ways and let the music take the focus. A few weeks later D & M would record their first demo in two overnight sessions and come the Spring of 2010 they were touring all over the region and opening for such notable acts as Yoko Ono, N.E.R.D, and Kevin Rudolph.
After playing regionally throughout 2010 they went back into the studio to record their new 5 song EP, “Delawanna”. It was released to critical acclaim on June 23rd and was featured on such notable outlets as AOL Music, Relix, AbsolutePunk, and many more. To support the release D & M teamed up with kickstarter.com to fan-fundraise for a national summer tour. This fan-funding project took them from coast to coast all summer, playing concerts in big cities, small cities, and even “Good Morning San Diego”.
The solid groove set forth by the rhythm section of Sean Donaghy on drums and Matthew Jurasek on bass gives the entire group rock-solid foundation for their dynamic songs. D & M continues to cultivate and mature their sound with latest release, “Wait For Me”, which dropped April 24th alongside an AOL album premiere and features on both PureVolume and CMJ.com. With 5 well-constructed, diverse tracks, the quartet took creative chances that ultimately paid off, incorporating a stellar horn section into the jazzy, pleading title track “Wait For Me” and to the aggressive stand-out “The Working Title”. D & M’s first single “The Sound of Breaking My Heart” showcases the band’s quirky, indie elements and features epic harmonies with featured guest vocalist, Lucy Stone.
Though the average age of the band is only 21, they show no signs of stopping. With 3 well-received EP releases, an original Christmas single completed, and tour dates spanning across the country, if 2012 really is the end of the world, they certainly will be going out with a bang! This is D & M. Listen, enjoy. Listen again, love.
